Heartz of Darkness

Heartz of Darkness beating through a deeper shadow so dark
that they eventually become blind and turn to stone
still beating in the darkness and living all alone.
Necessity is the motivation of every beat,
a need to love and be loved keeps the heartz beating,
even though this emotion of spiritual & physical oneness
with another is sight unseen.
People dying, Mothers sighing, children crying
within the darkness can only be heard.
Fatherless babies wiaing to be loved
but will never know the true meaning of the word.
Heartz grow colder and colder as the hands on
the clock of passing generations move closer and closer
towards a destiny unknown.
The Queen will never get her respect,
and the Born King will never see his throne.
These Heartz grow darker and colder still wondering
one day will the light of the Sun illuminate a path of rightousness
that can never be broken by the darkness of Man.

The propaganda of the media (News Media Debate)

Hell yeah opinions are replacing facts with the media. I call one example of many to support my opinion. This is the situation of Redskins standout free safety Sean Taylor who recently returned to the essence of life from a gun shot wound that he sustained while in his own home by unknown assailants.

I've been following Sean Taylor's football career since he was playing at the University of Miami. In the wake of his death since they didn't know anything about the man as a person the media has decided to shine light on all of his public inadequacies with the law and painting the picture that he deserved what he got. This just adds to the fact that the media is just another tool by an oppressive society to put black men in a negative light and make us look like whether we are successful or not we are still good for nothing but violence ultimately leading to death.

Let's demand fact based journalism.

My money ain't your money (Spending Habits Debate)

Soooo......if I get married me and my wife are going to have two bank accounts a piece. She's going to have her own bank account and one joint account with me. I will be doing the same thing. This is a must because I realize from observation that shopping is euphoric for women. So when she decides that she needs a rush of relaxation and satisfaction she won't be making the both of us broke just herself.

The joint account is used to pay BILLS just BILLS and no that does not mean your Macy's credit account. I want to be able to have my own money when its said and done because I know that I am disciplined with my money. My wife might not be the same way but I don't want that to hurt the growth of our relationship.

We might share the house, cars, etc. but my money ain't your money!!!

Video Games the epidemic

These violent forms of media portrayal also leads to poor academic performance. In order for the mind to expand and grow one must exercise it in a healthy manner. Tools such as reading, writing, and being read to help the development of a child’s mind. By mere common sense one can deduct that if a child is playing a video game for more hours than they use to study or do homework invariably their academics will suffer. For African-Americans we don’t have any strong positive representation on television. At the least we are portrayed as buffoons or simpletons who are of lower working class and all we seek is material gratification. Although the violence might be detrimental it is also these negative stereotypes that destroy the aspirations of the black youth. In a game like Grand Theft Auto, the main character in the most recent version is black and the object of the game is to glorify gang violence. For the average upper middle class youth minority or white this might not loom as large, but for the poor little black child this game serves as a tutorial on how to live in the environment that surrounds them on a daily basis.
The outcomes of playing video games aren’t all negative there are some effects that some scientists believe to be a good influence. Players have a chance to actively co-create the worlds of games by the decisions they make which could foster maturation in decision making skills. Games can be open-ended and allow for creativity and individualism on certain aspects of life. A video game whether violent or not can allow the player to see that events can happen differently and for a variety of complicated and interconnected reasons. Playing a video game can divert a child’s emotional distress from having a fatherless home or not receiving the attention needed from their parents (this can work negatively or positively depending on the child). In the case of Devin Moore, the love that he was missing at home translated to him committing an unprovoked atrocious crime of murdering three people in once setting. This situation calls on the emotionally detached children that these violent video games can mold.
It is also believed that there is a system in place that strategically phases out young black youth from the education system. To systematically oppress the black race by attacking it’s women and children has been what has helped structure the foundation of the current day American society. Video games are just another tool for the ruling classes to not only make money but to phase the black youth out of society. Almost every other culture has some form of iconography that they can call on when things in that culture get lost in ambiguity because the youth at a young age are taught their history. Since we as people of African descent who have been kidnapped into this imperialistic state of America, we don’t cognitively believe in our history beyond the holocaust of slavery. Consequently when things go wrong with our race too often we look at American media to guide us in the “right” direction. Video games are just another media for us as black people to be locked in the chains of mental slavery through the visual impressions of our youth.

The Imperialistic States Language (American Language)

American English is a bastard language point blank. It consists of many different European words bundled into a beautiful melting pot of what we call correct grammar.

How do the youth learn language? One way is through the music and television that they watch if we allow the youth to watch and listen to ignorant banter they will exemplify that language in their everyday lives and experiences.

Ways to improve your venacular is to:

Read a book, read a book, read a book.

Write everyday and not post a blog on myspace.

Study the dictionary its just another book just like any other publication.

Do Words Matter? What Nigga/Nigger?

The fact that black people distinguish the word nigger from nigga is a tragedy in every way imaginable. The two words mean the same thing there is no difference. It still means ignorant creature from the root word negroid. Our ancestors died having to bear the burden of that word before being lynched or burned alive in their homes.

How can we glorify such a word that means so much to the degradation of our race? For me I used to say it in every sentence, but we have to conciously say that we will not use this word in our everyday venacular and use more nouns to describe who we are not enhance idiot talk.

(Gender Debate) Men are from Women, Women are from Where again?

Without a doubt women in American society are not as respected in all parts as men. But in my humble opinion women are smarter than men the only thing that hurts the female is the fact that often times their emotions hurt their decision making and interactions with others. The most powerful women in the world are those that don't allow emotions to get in the way of these things.

Especially black women in America are targeted by every other culture in the pantheon. They are made out to be prostitutes and angry at the black man. If only they knew that the first queens the world has known were of their lineage. Compare that to the fact that it is hard for us to think that Hillary Clinton can be president.

I said it in an earlier blog. We as black men come from women so we must respect them but they must respect themselves first.

The Makings of You (Genetics)

Let me give you all a history lesson. It is not secret to the educated that mankind originated in Africa, that is not to be desputed. There were 5 major stages of human development that leads us to the evolved state that we exist today.

1. Austrolopithicus - Southern Ape
2. Homo Habilis - Clever Handiman, man with ability
3. Homo Erectus - Upright Man
4. Homo Sapien - Wise Man
5. Homo Sapien Sapiens - Wise wise man/modern man

To explain how genetically humans are located throughout the globe there are two theories that explain the phenomenon.

1. Multi Regional Theory - Homo erectus left Africa and populated different places around the world, but developed into Homo Sapiens at different times.

2. Out of Africa Theory - Homo Sapiens developed in Africa and then left after this evolution.

Cultural Identities

It seems to me that whatever culture that one is a part of determines the type of person they are destined to be their entire lives. This is true for many people and it was true for me until I decided that I wouldn't allow society put me in a box of which I could never break loose. Growing up in the "hood" there is a certain swagger that consists of wearing baggy clothes, sagging pants and wearing the same clothes two to three days in a row. If you came back to the crib with better clothes than everyone else with your pants pulled up and around your waist you automatically have money and have changed in the perception of the streets. Don't go back there saying big words or articulate your words then you've assimilated into the white man's world. This is true for me everytime I go back home and try to reconnect with the neighborhood and old friends. It seems that this is the case for many people who have decided to take owness for their own education and live in a world outside of the perpetual box of ethnic inferiority. They either talk white or their not "down" with the hood. Nonesense, this system is designed to keep people seperate so that they cannot oppose the injustices of society.

The whole idea of cultural identities is a idealogy of separatism. When black people are separated because he is from another neighborhood or city than I am should not come between us building a better community for the future of our race the children.

We as Africans in America don't even recognize our brothers and sisters who live in Africa as black and vice versa. The conquest of the mind starts with creating a sense of solidarity with being alone so that the group won't organize and attack on one is easier than attack of the group.

Come together as one regardless of Culture.

The Stolen Legacy

From the Great Continent we were stolen,
shipped over-night like a FedEx package to a foreign land,
forced apart because they knew our blood was richer,
because they knew that if they separated us we would fall.
And fallen we have,
because centruies after we still do not know our legacy.
We still cannot truly say we are Africans nor can we truly say we are
Americans.
The legacy that was stolen from us will never be reclaimed until we stand
up and realize that we are not free, that slavery
is so deep rooted into our being that it will take
more than speeches and marches to break the chains.
Not until we unite as a people and break the chains, and search for
that which matters most . . . . . .
YOUR LEGACY.

The Illusion of Networking (Social Networking)

Although I do have both a Facebook and Myspace account I feel that these networking mediums have outlasted their usage. So much so that people are using these online resources for all the wrong reasons. My purpose for joining the two so-called networking resources was not to meet new people but to reconnect with people that I had lost touch with since I've been in Florida and to establish another form of communication between friends that I already had. I have observed that many people use Facebook to meet new people for the desire of hopefully meeting someone they can have relations with based on a misleading picture. Somethings wrong when people who wouldn't otherwise step foot in the library only go so that they can sit in front of a computer screen and mindlessly look at pictures of strangers on facebook instead of reading a book.

One can easily spend up to five hours a day on myspace, but Marcus Garvey stated that we as Africans in America should spend fiver hours a day reading so that we can increase our knowledge beyond that of our oppressors. People worried more about having inattentive conversations online with pictures rather than walking in the world and meeting the people that surround them physically everyday.

Just another form of chains that mentally enslave the ethnically challenged of this imperialistic country. There's always something new created to kill the human mind whether it be drugs or facebook its all addictive.

Black Men as Kings

The story of many young black men is this: either we have no fathers or no true upbringing. What if we were raised to know and overstand the fact that we are all Kings and it is our natural born right to success and be at the top of every "food" chain? As a black man myself and observing the actions of others I see that we don't for one don't know how to treat our own women, be fathers to our children and leaders of our community. We are too locked into our own success to see that there are others in this country that need us all to step up and claim our throne in this foriegn country. Our Queens are no longer Queens, we don't treat them as such and the children suffer. Let us reclaim our thrones and be F.R.E.E.

The Image of the Body (Body Image Debate)

I have been ridiculed by many of my peers for my perspectives on the image of the body. Mainly because in my opinion it doesn't matter what someone else thinks about how I look, but it seems as if most people manage their personal presentation on how the outside world perceives them.

I hate the old saying "perception is reality" because it says that what you think about yourself doesn't matter and what does matter is what someone else thinks about you. So if your a complicated person people who don't have open minds tend to incorrectly judge you as an individual.

One instance that I have a problem with is the whole interview scenario. I am a business major and on many occasions I have been told that the way you look in the eyes of the interviewer can determine whether or not you get the position you are applying for with the company. I believe that this is a tragedy because many times candidates aren't properly trained on how to present themselves even though they maintain the mental capability to do the job. I was riding with my manager while on my last internship in Atlanta and my manager adamantly explained to me that if a young man of color came into an interview with her and had braids or locks that she would feel disrespected. She further explained that not only will she get the feeling of discourtesy that she will automatically go thumbs down on moving forward with that individual. Why can't we as African-American people express ourselves in a way that is unique to our own culture without ridicule from other races or even members of our own race? Far too often we have to assimilate to what white society thinks is acceptable in our own appearance. This is evident with black women feeling like having nappy hair is a bad thing. That they should get perms that slowly seep chemicals into their scalp and causing their hair to look like the picture below:

All I would say from here is that people shouldn't live their

lives wondering what someone else thinks about how they

look, just be comfortable with self.

Know Thy Self.........

Who are you? Can you honestly say that you actively try to achieve growth as an individual? To ascend to a level of understanding that makes you superior in the pantheon of normality that we currently exist. What are your values in life? What motivates you to continue waking up everyday and moving throughout your day?

As a man of integrity it is only appropriate that I answer the very questions that I have posed to the reader. I am an African-American man who has come a long way in the art of self progression. I have an old soul which is one of the things that serves as a anchor in the decisions that I make in my life. Yes, although I'm not consistent with it I feel that reading is the best way to gain knowledge and exercise the mind. I also believe that the history we leave behind us always dictates the path of our future.

My personal values consist of being an honest individual, staying balanced on all three levels of my being: physically, spiritually, and mentally. Having a sense of loyalty and surrounding myself with people who are striving to achieve success in life. My motivational drive is my family. I realize that when all friendships have come and gone, your family (in most cases) will still be in your life.
